These are from Dominique, a freelance graphic and print designer based in Buenos Aires. These works are full of underground atmosphere and elements of youth culture in today's society. It was obvious that she had deliberately added a lot of interference to the original image, whether it was streaks, garbled code, or inverted phase, she had used it well. Although she is a western designer, she uses many elements of Japanese culture, which also arouses my interest. I really enjoy seeing the product of the combination of diverse cultures. When I see this kind of work, it always makes me eager to try and create new things with different cultures.
Publication
As a by-product of the exhibition, the primary logic of this book manifested as a complete year of Post, exists as a completely white object, only revealing itself when opened. Content is modularized, sections overlapping each other at various sizes. Lines appear; gaps between one island to the next. This negative space which crisscrosses the primary logic has been used for inserting new content, pulled directly from the exhibition.
The book will be added a lot of possible variable data after the exhibition. I think this kind of design will have more interaction and generate some effective communication with the audience. This is very important for design.
Typeface
LARVA is a new typeface distributed by HIDE Productions
“Larva” is a sharp almost illegible font, which shapes are inspired to ancient mystical monoliths. The purpose of "Larva" type is to create a new kind of aesthetic based on the cadence of the sign, and not the meaning of the single letters.
I started to pay attention to this facetype design last year. I think this illegible typeface brings me back to the beginnings of human language, and the ancient mystical monoliths as its designer put it seems to be in my mind. These words are like mysterious symbols, as if from the future, as if from a long time ago. These characters seem to transcend the limitations of space and time, which is very valuable. My future work will work in this direction.
Typography
The 451 magazine was born with the intention of rescuing from the fire what never had to burn and with the determination to face those who believe that fire can silence the culture or eliminate the subversive. 451 is a publication made by those who love literature for those who burn for it.
I think it's very ingenious to put a layer of red phosphorus on the spine of a book, and the holes in the cover also show a burning feeling. Such design lets the audience be clear at a glance. For me, the most useful aspect is that different materials can be set in different parts of the book, which makes the book interesting.
